Our precious angel who left behind a
legacy of fight and resilience
that continues through The MEG Foundation
"Though she may have been small in stature, Miya's spirit was mighty.
Her story continues to touch hearts and change lives."
The MEG Foundation was established in memory of our precious baby girl, Miya Emma Govender. Miya was born with a rare genetic condition that had neurological implications, impairing her ability to breathe effectively without the assistance of a trachea tube.
As a result, Miya required 24/7 monitoring and care. Our angel faced many challenges, and as parents, it was gut-wrenching and often unbearable to witness.
We were not only faced with the heartache of Miya's condition but were burdened with the huge cost her treatment and care would incur.
"Every moment with Miya was a precious gift, filled with her jovial and resilient spirit in the face of so much adversity."
In our darkest moments, light appeared through the kindness of strangers and friends
Our local community rallied around us, offering support, prayers, and practical help when we needed it most.
People from around the world reached out, showing us that love knows no boundaries or borders.
Through faith and the power of prayer, we found strength to face each day with hope and courage.
Thankfully, God sent many angels—people both locally and abroad—to help us through our journey. Through those angels, our burden was made lighter, allowing us to focus all our attention on our baby girl.
We will forever be grateful to those individuals.
Though she is no longer with us, Miya's spirit lives on in every life we touch
Sadly, Miya Emma left us to be in the arms of Jesus on the 23rd of November 2024—the day I felt a part of my soul leave my body.
But she left something behind… a legacy of fight and resilience I have never seen before in any human—a legacy that will continue through The MEG Foundation.
This foundation exists in honour of her jovial and resilient spirit in the face of so much adversity.
"In loving memory of our precious angel, whose light continues to shine through the lives we help."

Forever in our hearts
Miya's story is not unique—countless families face similar struggles every day
of babies, just like Miya, facing life-altering illnesses
Many don't have access to basic care that could save their lives
Sometimes-impossible circumstances that no family should face
There are hundreds of babies, just like Miya, facing life-altering illnesses, and many of them don't have access to basic care.
As parents of a sick baby, our eyes were opened to the sometimes-impossible circumstances many children and parents face. Though we were fortunate to have had medical assistance, we were still burdened with additional expenses.
There are parents out there who don't have access to basic essentials—essentials that help keep their babies well.
These necessities are often not available through the public health care system.
This is a situation that no parent or child should have to be in.
Turning heartbreak into hope, one baby at a time
The MEG Foundation (NPO) has been initiated to help babies in urgent need of basic health care. Many parents are facing the brutal reality of not being able to provide for their children.
And if we can help—even in the littlest way—why not?
We make a humble plea, as parents, to parents… and to other willing individuals… to be angels to these precious babies.
Your contribution goes directly to much-needed medical care and supplies for babies who desperately need them.
Your contribution—big or small—could make an insurmountable difference in a child's life.
"Alone we can do so little, Together we can do so much."
Let's rally together to help those in need.
